How-to-Port-Your-Skype-Phone-Number-to-KrispCall?

Skype officially retired in May 2025, and its calling and Skype Number services have since wound down completely. If you still have a Skype Number you'd like to keep using, you can port it to KrispCall and continue making and receiving calls on a platform that's built for it.

Before you begin, let's go through all the requirements you need to meet to port your Skype number.

Important Requirements Before Porting

  • Before starting, make sure your number is eligible for porting.
  • We recommend reaching out to KrispCall's support team to confirm the required details and avoid any missing information.
  • Your Skype Number must have been on an active, in-good-standing subscription. Skype doesn't run a self-serve port-out flow like a traditional carrier. Microsoft's own guidance is simply to contact your new provider, so KrispCall's porting team initiates the request and handles the back-and-forth with Microsoft.
  • You need a KrispCall account. The account must be set up before the porting process begins.

Note : We offer a Number Porting Eligibility Checker tool that can test the portability of your phone number. If you encounter any problems using the tool, you can contact our support representative via Live Chat or email us at porting@krispcall.com or support@krispcall.com.

Information Required to Port Your Number from Skype

To successfully port your number from Skype to KrispCall, you will need the following details:

Requirements

Details

Skype number

The number you want to port, in E.164 format (recommended)

Account ownership proof

A screenshot of your Skype account page showing your username and number, saved as a PDF

Letter of Authorization (LOA)

First and last name must match your Skype account profile exactly

Billing address

Matching the address on your Skype account, if available

Recent statement

A recent billing statement, if you have one; the screenshot above works as a fallback

Important notice: Skype's own subscription service for calling and Skype Numbers ended on May 1, 2026. If your subscription is still active, don't cancel it or let it lapse until KrispCall confirms your port is complete; once it lapses, the number can't be recovered.

How to Submit Your Porting Request to KrispCall

Once you've gathered the details above, submit your porting request to KrispCall:

  • Email your porting request with all the required details to porting@krispcall.com.
  • Ensure all information is accurate to prevent delays in processing.
  • KrispCall will handle the rest, including coordinating with Microsoft, and will notify you once the porting is completed.

Since Skype doesn't have a standard carrier SLA, timelines can vary more than with a typical mobile porting request. Confirm an estimate with KrispCall's porting team when you submit your request.

Best Practices for Phone Number Porting

  • Make sure your LOA name matches your Skype account profile exactly to avoid rejection.
  • Export your Skype chat and call history through the Skype Export Portal if you haven't already; June 15, 2026, is the last date to request an export.
  • Keep any Skype Credit balance or refund paperwork on hand in case it's needed during the port.
  • Inform your team and clients about the number transfer to avoid confusion.
  • Keep track of updates from KrispCall and respond promptly to any requests for additional information.

Is It Too Late? Where Skype's Shutdown Stands

  • May 5, 2025: The Skype app retired. SMS, call forwarding, voicemail, and Caller ID setup stopped working.
  • Existing calling and Skype Number subscriptions continued on their original billing cycles, accessible through the Skype web portal or the Skype Dial Pad in Teams Free.
  • Feb 15, 2026: Caller ID setup shut down. Any number connected to it was deleted.
  • May 1, 2026: All remaining Skype subscriptions ended. Anything still active was canceled and converted to Skype Credit or refunded.

KrispCall can't retrieve a number from an inactive Skype account if your subscription has already lapsed, because your number isn't tied to a billable Skype service anymore. For a successful porting process, the number must be active and retrievable. If it no longer appears in your Skype account or via the Skype Dial Pad in Microsoft Teams, it is unlikely that any provider will be able to port it.

If you’re unsure, check your account access first and reach out to Microsoft's Skype support to confirm whether your number can still be recovered. For more on KrispCall’s porting requirements, check out Twilio’s number porting guide.

FAQs

Can I still port my Skype number now that Skype's subscription service has ended?

Yes, you can as long as your number was on an active subscription before May 1, 2026, or you've separately confirmed with Microsoft that it's still recoverable. Keep in mind that Skype was never built to natively handle port-outs the way a traditional carrier does. The porting needs to be initiated through your new provider.

What happens to my Skype number if I never port it out?

Once your subscription ended, your number was either deleted (for numbers tied to Caller ID, which shut down on Feb 15, 2026) or released back to Microsoft. There's no guaranteed way to reclaim it after that point.

Does porting affect my Skype chat history?

No. Porting only moves your phone number for calling. Your Skype chat and call history are handled separately through the Skype Export Portal or Teams Free migration.

How long does it take to port a Skype Number to KrispCall?

There's no fixed SLA since Skype doesn't operate like a traditional carrier. Confirm a timeline estimate with KrispCall's porting team when you submit your request.

How to transfer Skype number?

To transfer your Skype number, you need to port it to another phone service provider such as KrispCall. Gather the required documents, including proof of account ownership and a signed Letter of Authorization (LOA), then submit your request to KrispCall's porting team. They will coordinate with Microsoft to complete the transfer. If your Skype Number is no longer active or recoverable, it may not be eligible for porting.
